Arise Magazine Fashion Week Lagos 2011 kicks off tomorrow March 10th, 2011. LadybrilleNigeria.com will be bringing you the scoop from the event soon. In the meantime, here is the latest news from the Arise camp about the event.

LOCATION: The ARISE MAGAZINE FASHION WEEK LAGOS 2011 will take place at the luxury Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, from Thursday 10th March to Sunday 13th March 2011.

THE DESIGNERS: The event has up to 50 African fashion designers participating. The fashion shows will be in three categories: Group, Double and Collective showcases over four days.

THE MUSIC PERFORMANCES: Arise Magazine Fashion Week 2011 will each day of the event close with a star-studded closing musical act. Confirmed artists include Naeto C, Darey Art-Alade, Grammy Award-winning singer Estelle and to close the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week Awards on Sunday 13 March, will be Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu – better known as the two-time BRIT Award-winning artist: Tinie Tempah.

Nigeria’s fashion industry gets a major facelift with Arise Magazine Fashion Week Lagos. The event takes place in Lagos from Thursday March 10th to Sunday March 13th 2011. Over twenty Nigerian designers will be showing including the big names like Deola Sagoe, Jewel by Lisa and Tiffany Amber. Nigerian artists Darey Art Alade and Naeto C are some of the performers that will also be performing throughout the week.

Deola Sagoe continues to push her brand forward within and outside Nigeria. In the past five years, we have seen Deola make a comeback with the launch of both a retail store and ready-to-wear line. She also showed in February at New York Fashion Week; and in June/July at Africa York Fashion Week (South Africa).

The designer now collaborates with Canoe Magazine, out of Ghana, to drive home her new tagline, “Shebi Na Deola.”

NEW YORK, NY– (July 8, 2010) – The Producers of the NEA Awards are pleased to announce the Nominees for the Fifth Annual NEA Awards scheduled for Saturday, September 18th, 2010 at 5:30pm at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Art Center. This year’s nomination list is considered the most intriguing in the history of the show. The producers of the show also expanded this years’ category list to include non-traditional entertainment segments like Radio and TV personalities, Reality shows and Fashion. The producers of the show recognize the continued popularity and successes of these segments and want to make sure that these groups are recognized as part of the Nigeria Entertainment community.

West Africa Idol runner-up Omawumi leads this year’s pack with five nominations for her debut album Wonder Woman. Four of the nominations were for her debut album and one for her feature on the late Dagrin’s song “Thank God.” Dagrin came in second with four nominations along with Tuface and new comer Kefee. The late Dagrin received nominations for Best Album for “C.E.O”, Hottest Single “Kondo”, Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with Vocals for “Thank God” with Omawumi.

This year’s Best Album category is the most intriguing category in the music segment of the nomination category. For the first time, the category has different genres of music including Rap, Hip Hop, Soul and Pop/R&B- M2M by Wande Coal, Dagrin’s CEO, Omawumi’s Wonder Woman and Tuface’s Unstoppable are all nominated for the Best Album award.

The Best Actress in a Film/Short Story will be one of the most highly competitive categories this year. The nominees for the category include veteran actresses Nse Etim for her role in Reloaded, Ini Edo for Native Son, Genevieve Nnaji for Silent Scandal, Stephanie Okereke for Nneda and Omotola Ekeinde-Jalade for Deepest dreams.

Deola Sagoe Plans to Launch Brand in the US to Capture US Audience

“Deola Sagoe Launches in the USA” recent press release headline claims the designer “launches in the USA” but there are no specifics as to when, where and which retail stores will be carrying her brand. However, it appears the designer is planning to launch her brand in the US market to capture US audience at some point. We will keep you informed as details unfold. Deola Sagoe ‘Above the Fray’- Arise Magazine African Collective III Fall 2010

Deola Sagoe emerged as the Star of the Arise Magazine African Collective Fall 2010. Sagoe showed a collection titled ‘Above the Fray.’ Above the Fray collection as explained by the designer, in a press release, prior to the show is “a seamless fusion of elements found within the African and Western militias, fashionably remixed with a blend of ethnocentric accents and military silhouettes.

“I have always been fascinated by military gear and wanted to create something that would look like African body paint, but not tattoos, an elegant, chic and somewhat formal representation of what this body paint tends to look like,” explained Sagoe.

The collection features signature scissorwork, resulting in clean stripped, sliced, shredded detailing. The stripes are a take on geometric body markings found on the bodies of Maasai warriors within Eastern Africa

The collection is titled “Above the Fray,” a play on a phrase culled from classic military jargon, often used to depict kings and generals peering down from mountain tops overseeing fighting soldiers. The phrase, “Above the Fray” connotes a person or entity, standing a cut above the rest, a testament to the Deola Sagoe the person and the brand with 21 years of design under her belt.
