Lawyer, Former banker and entrepreneur Yewande Zaccheaus, one of Lagos’s succesful businesswomen, discusses all of the challenges and positives of doing business in Lagos. She says women need to stop blaming men for their problems. Women need to network more and she also points out Nigerian women have historically not kept proper financial records and this has served as a hindrance to obtaining funding for their businesses. Most Nigerian fashion designers will tell you one of the key things they would like to happen is have their designs stocked at retail stores, especially in the USA and UK. Within Nigeria, retail boutiques that stock Nigerian designers is still a relatively new concept, pioneered by the likes of Leila Fowler.

Brazil Trade Africa Fair 2009

Brazil joins the number of Western countries looking to strengthen ties with Africa, Nigeria included. The country held its annual trade fair in Johnannesburg, South Africa on September 2nd-4th, 2009. Thirty four import and export companies from Latin America participated from various sectors which included beverage, food, clothing, footwear, furniture, cosmetics. The fair which included seminars and meetings attracted buyers from Nigeria, Angola, Mozambique, Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.
